ph for an arowana

I personally keep my green arowana at a Ph of 7.4. Toronto tap water is just that way. Most people use additives like Blackwater extracts, peat granules and similar products but I don't bother.

Friends in different parts of the world keep theirs at different levels...A friend in california keeps his arowanas and rays all the way up to 8.2 and another one in B.C has his at 6.4. Both look great and are doing just fine. None of us have tampered with our tap water although most sources in books and on the net seem to agree that arowanas do prefer a more acidic environment. They do come from acidic environments in nature.

I haven't noticed a difference in life span, or behaviour in these fish...My dad and I must be doing something right though...Fang (Our RTG arowana) is celebrating his 23rd birthday this christmas....I'm 19

That's Great on the 23rd B-Day of 'Fang'!! WOW! Keep it up!

Arowana's are too big for me to care for...
What size tank is he/she in??? 23 years....!

Do you have pictures??
I'd like to vote "Fang", as this years Christmas fish...
Maybe there's no catagory yet, but there should be!

Pictures would be nice...

Fang is definitely not photogenic. He's jumped out of the tank 4 times in his life. He has only 1 barbel, an overshot jaw and he has lost most of his colour - Numerous scars too...He's one big ugly thing....But that's ok...We still love him...He currently lives with my dad and when I get some time I'll take a few shots.

He lived most of his life in a homemade 5ft x 3ft x 2 ft glass tank but last year we had to transfer him to a rubbermaid thing because it was leaking...This year we're trying to find something special to get him.
