Hey guys, i may be in some serious trouble, i started a ten gallon all my other prams are fine except pH, its in the 8's so i used the pH up from api, well lots of it in the last few hours and no result.... as im typing this, did i just add the opposite of what i needed... are my fish doomed please help?

i ve added like 4 treatments (80 drops) of that ph up if i go get the down will i have added to many chemicals and kill my fish anyway

in the tank i have 2 neon tetras, 2 goldfish

hmmm... lets start with the pH. if your pH was in the 8's and you added pH UP, then it would go higher, which is not desirable. second, your pH more than likely doesnt need to be changed, as most fish can adapt quite well. do some water changes to balance the pH and don't worry about it.

tetras are tropical fish, and goldfish are coldwater fish. they should not be kept together.

i wouldnt add any more chemicals if i were you.

First of all, a stale pH is better for a fish than the right pH. Second, adding chemicals to the tank will only make matters worse since these chemicals only last a certain amount of time and thus will create a pH rollercoaster. Third, as J double r said, goldfish are coldwater fish and neon tetras are tropical fish, so they are not compatible.

Don't start the ups and downs of trying to make your water suit some ideal conditions that is out in a natural habitat. Water change to bring things back to your tap conditions.
