Hey all.

I want to buy a Hammers Cobalt Blue Lobster for my tank. Here is my tank:

Do you think it will have enough room? Also, my neons aren't swimming as high as I had anticipated - does anyone know enough about these creatues to know if they would be likely to nip at the Neons? According to that link it seems unlikely, I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience.

The crayfish will eat the neons. Even if you feed it every day it will eat whatever it can catch. That is the nature of the animal. I had a pet store swear to me that they wouldnt eat anything if they were kept well fed. Within a few days that pet store took the blue crayfish back

So, if you don't want your fish eaten, don't get it.

Wow! Ok, I'll have to think again on that one! Awww, I really wanted to get that, too. ****. Oh well.

Yeah, the tank is 20 gallons.

Good choice i'd say for that tank. You will need a bit more coverage in there for your lobster to hide in though. Perhaps some Java moss stuffed around that pipe decoration thingy. He'll most likely take up home in there but will need much more coverage then that to feel comfratable and safe. They can be very shy at times and without proper hiding they will freak out and die.

And yes, alas your Neons will most likely NOT survive in close living quarters with a lobster no matter how much you feed it. I however, do like to keep a supply of feeder guppies in my tanks with the lobsters to incurage natural hunting behaviors and lifestyles. Plus with feeder guppies i'm not so heart broken when one gets eaten. Also it give you more to look at in a tank when your lobster is playig hide and theres no way your gonna see me!!!

hehehe
good luck!

I've kept Mollies, tiger barbs, Giant barbs, Zebra Danios, Rainbow sharks, and Albino Cherry barbs with crayfish with no problems.

It also really depends on the specific Crawfish. The 1st one I had was pretty passive. I kept ghost shrimp with him, and he didn't eat them, and I never saw him snap at any living organism while I had him. And I know for sure he could have eaten up all the ghost shrimp in 1 day.

The one I have now is more aggressive. Have seen him snap at a tiger bard every now and then, but hes not a danger.... maybe if they're sleeping... but I've had him for 2 months or so, and no problems as of yet.

They're not really hunters, they're scavengers. They mostly dig through the gravel to get food.

But definetly give them something to hide in or behind, like a tube, or big rock in the corner, etc. And they will eat live plants, so stay with the fake ones.
