Picky Angels?

I got two angels a couple days ago and despite their size they seem awfully shy. A lot of hiding but they do come out occationally to investigate. There are only bottom feeders with them but they're even a bit skittish around my panda cories. (One more then the other) Anyway, whenever they see me come to the tank they come out and up to feed. I have given them flake food and freeze dried bloodworms and one (the more skittish one) will sort of look at the food and swim away like he's not pleased with the selection (lol). The other one eats (not with gusto but still eats). Has anyone else experienced this with their angels? Is there any other food that Angels really LOVE or should I just not push it and let him get used to his new environment. I'm trying to stay away from live food but if he doesn't eat soon I'll try anything. Thanks for reading!

There are lots of frozen foods you can try. Mine love just about everything; flake, shrimp pellets, tetra Color bites, wafers, but they go nuts over the frozen foods including BB shrimp, bloodworms, black worms, Krill and will pick at daphnia. Just give the fish time to adjust, they are probably still settling. What is your tank set-up, how many fish and so-forth? This could affect the angels too.

they are new so they are adapting to the new environment..and new food.

how big is your tank? is there cover?



did you get them from a LFS or local source(breeder)?.

I have a few angels and learned that they may need to recognize the food and the source.

try frozen blood worms or frozen brine shrimp

the angels will eventually get use to the food and you ..then watch what happens..LOL

they see you come in the room and they eagerly zoom to the front.dance, display you name it...LOL

How many angels does it take for them to be truely happy? I mean are they a schooling fish?

Thanks for the replys! My specs are on my sig below... I think they are still settling in... I did just add two more pandas and as you know, happy cories are active - very active actually.... do you think they're making my angels a little nervous with all the back and forth, foraging, and so on? I have another 10 gal. maybe I should move 3 of the pandas in to that one.... should I just give everyone a bit more time?

the activities of the cory's may distract the angels..after time they will learn to ignore the activity.

I suspect they are settling in the tank is plenty big enough (is that marble angel you have in the sig tag one of these?)

give them a few days I have wild Peruvian scalare in a 30 they are finally settling in after 3 weeks..they still react to movement even tho they know I am their food source(they picked up on that in two days)

they will hide from time to time. all my other angels rarely run from me.

and the babies I have in the growout never run from me..matter of fact they eat out of the spoon...LOL

so they should be fine..

star rider - yup, thats him in the sig... I'm not extremely knowledgeable about angels - so it a marble, not a koi? Are kois generally darker? My other angel is very silver with a black tiger pattern on his back half and his "chin whiskers" for lack of a better term lol are almost bluish! Any ideas on what kind he is?

actually with the gold crest it is a marble koi
the other I'm not certain but possible blue blusher mix(marble?) it isn't quite a half black

chin whiskers ...LOL are you referring to the ventral fins??

btw, nice looking angels.

Y'know, I have looked at blue blushers on-line but I guess there's so much interbreeding now, Angels can almost be "mutts" now?

actually, most of the color morphs we see in the stores koi, marble, marble koi,blue blusher,half black etc

are mutts(so to speak)
have seen wild Scalare, Altums or Leopoldi?

they are awesome to see..'

Angles do make a good centerpiece fish especially when fully grown
