Hi

I have noticed that my pheasant fry aren't as keen on the '8 Veggie' flake that I feed them. While the electric yellows gobble the stuff up as fast as they can, the pheasants spit it out after tasting it, especially the big pieces. Should I be trying something else? The yellows seem a lot more aggressive when it comes to eating. They eat most of the food before it is half way down the tank, while the pheasants wait down at the bottom and are rather picky.

Thanks. Here's a pic:

I believe when they spit out food they are breaking it down into smaller pieces to eat, my fish do this all the time but 30 mins later its all gone .

Sorry I ment peacocks - Aulonocara. I am still trying to pick up the lingo.

peafowl are the largest members of the pheasant family. . . you were close.

You may also look into a garlic extract, like Garlic Extreme or Garlic Guard. You moisten their food w/ it & it just turn's them on. I know many people that swear by it. It can also be used in case's w/ sick fish that won't eat. It can be found in any LFS on online, but if that was all you were going to buy then chk out your LFS.:) As Mandy-2007 said above that is also a way for them to break dwn larger pcs. Good luck!

if you're going to do that though ^ just buy a jar of minced garlic at the grocery store and use the juice. might be cheaper or comparable, but then you get to use it too. keep it in the fridge.

You do this?

So I had not researched just extracting the juice myself, cause I just started using this method, but had wondered if I could just do it myself, cause it would be ALLOT cheaper to do it myself:) You have done this & for how long, do you use the same amount I would assume just drop's? Thank's

i haven't had to use it, my fish all have good appetites. Garlic is garlic though, and it makes more sense to me personally to use what i already have or use myself instead of spending money on garlic processed specifically for fish.

If you get a jar of minced garlic, it is pretty much just water in the jar, packed full of teeny garlic bits. This infuses the water with all the flavor and the garlic juice, so all you would need to do is take out enough juice to soak the fish food in, a teaspoon or so would be enough. If you use a lot of the juice but not a lot of the garlic (for your cooking), you could probably be fine with topping off the water in the jar so there is always a lot of liquid. And once the fish start eating properly, you don't need to use it anymore.
