This is my newer, bigger sword plant, and the leaves on this one ilook just like the leaves on my little did before they turned totally brown and I cut them... there are a few new leaves in the midst of the dying ones, tough to see in this picture

Great!! Those will be full big sword plants in no time. My sword is making little baby swords right now so I am trying to figure out where to put the next one.

deocder ~ yeah, cut the leaves off once they start turning brown on the stems, but leave the roots and other leaves in the tank... maybe you'll have regeneration!

TKOS ~ Cool! I had 2 babies from the little sword plant floating in my water (roots too short to try to plant), but they died... I think because they didn't get enough nutrients. I think the next babies will get planted no matter how hard it is!

Hey!!!! that's good news, the plant looks nice. How's the java doing? Mine kind of quit growing, but based on my nitrate tests the last two weeks, I think plant mass has reached or exceeded available nitrogen from my fish. Time to start with the KNO3 if I can find some. It would be so much easier for me to use ammonium ntrate, not sure if I want to go there though.

glad to see that your plants are doing well now. :dance

In the interest of not hijacking Tara's post too much I'll just say Thanks Len, I may use that source.

You can hijack my thread anytime Dave ;)

The java fern has a few new sprouts on it, but the 'original' plant is looking dirty... kind of hard to explain... but at least it's growing!! And the swords, aaah, the swords are going to be OK!

Mine tend to get the dirty look on leaves that don't continue growing. I usually leave them for a while but eventually they will become predominantly black and I trim them off. they also seem to have a tendancy to become pourous, and when they do the baby Java's start growing big time at the end of the leaves. It really is an interesting plant IMO.
