I'm confused by what all these do. Gram positive infections.. gram negative infections. How do I know which each of these are?

Pimafix is for fungus and Melafix for bacteria is basically what I know. But this gram positive and negative confuses me.

maracyn Plus vs. Maracyn II.. can't figure the difference out. UGGH

Can anyone help and dumb it up for me.. :)

I'm no expert on gram negative verses gram positive bacteria except that some meds work with one type but not the other. Maracyn1 and 2 for example. Makes it tough to get just one med and know it will work for you. I understand that two Maracyn products can be used concurrently for best chance of curing the bacterial cause.
Melafix and Pimafix have natural ingredients and do not attack bacteria or fungus directly but help the fish to fight it off with their own defenses.

wow, this will be great if I have any fish disease

Gram-positive and Gram-negative refers to the type of cell wall that the bacteria has. This is determined using a relatively simple procedure called a Gram Stain (after Hans Christian Gram the inventor). The results from the test can be either positive or negative (hence = gram-positive or gram-negative).

Gram-positive have a weaker cell wall that antibiotics and the organisms defenses can more easily overcome to kill the bacteria.

Gram-negative bacteria have much stronger cell wall and are often more pathogenic.

For general use a gram-positive antibiotic will only be effective against the one type of bacteria. The gram-negative antibiotic can be effective against both types of bacteria. If your fish have an bacterial infection it is probably best to use a gram-negative antibiotic (the gram-positive antibiotic is normally cheaper).
