I've been thinking about using Jobes fertilizer sticks broken up at root tabs and while chatting on the boards here it was recommended that I use Osmocote instead as it's been a proven fish safe fertilizer for some time.

Well I was at my LFS today and noticed a basket of stuff the manager took off the shelf because it expired or was being sent back to their distributor.
I noticed this package of Nutrafin Fertilizer Sticks (the package looked like it had got wet, but it was just old) I asked him if the sticks could be taken apart and he said he didn't think so, but said I could have them if I wanted! http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=Plan...&sa=N&tab=wf&bav=on.2,or.&fp=830fb0d0d7bd03d2

I went back to work and looked them up on the internet and sure enough you can take them apart, so after work I picked up a 3lb container of 16-9-12 "indoor -outdoor Osmocote fertilizer" this is way more than I wanted to buy but they didn't sell the 1.25lb containers that they sell online. (the 3lb cost me $10.49)

I plan to use something like fluorescent fish line to tieand loop through one of holes in the fert stick with enough hanging off I will know where I stuck it in the gravel/substrate.

Great find!! Keep us posted on how they work. They seem alot simpler than the "poker" tool that I made. Heck, I would have sent you half of my osmocote since it will last forever at that size.
