I got this at "Old Town Aquarium" in down town chicago. Have any idea what it could be? they sold it cheap and said it dies in our tanks we'll give you a deal on it.

You might be right SubRosa.. http://duckweedaquaticcentral.com/a-reineckii-scarlet-temple/ the pic in that link does look a lot like it. but other pics I have seen don't
Alternanthera reineckii appears to have 2 leaves per node... my plant only has one leaf per node.

No wonder it is coming in all green for me. Actually sounds like I am doing something right just to have it grow at all.
defiantly Alternanthera reineckii. when grown in medium to lower light the plant is less red. most the red is on the underside of the leaf and green on top of the leaf. I have several tanks with this in it. One plant in lower light that will get red colors.
