I decided, after many years, to do a small planted tank. I was fortunate to purchase a 20 gall tall, from Petco, which was moving a store to another location. This is a Medium budget build, and I'm having a blast doing it. What a Aquarium build for anyways?
Substrate is Carib-Sea, and I have Black aquarium gravel on top. I got all the Rocks, from the Rio Grande River. I boiled them for about 20 minutes, before washing them in cold water. Plants were from a "Big Box Store" and in awful condition. I did get a Fluval 45G CO2 system, and installed it. I am pumping about 1 bubble every 5 seconds. More to come!!!!
Tank looks nice so far.
I wouldn't plant the java fern and anubias, they do best with their roots and rhizome above the gravel. Try tying them to rocks or wood they'll thrive that way.
Super glue works, has to be the the gel glue. Gorilla Glue is what I used for my anubias when I glued them to rocks. Jungle val or amazon swords would be a nice background plant for a tall tank.
Thanks! From now on, I won't buy from that store. I will wait and get them from somewhere.....
They didn't have much of a selection, and what they did have, had dead leaves. I did buy grass as well, and it had mostly brown blades.
Here, I added sand for a river look, and punched in the grass. Added a few shells, white sand in the river bed......
I order my plants online. I recommend buceplant.com I gotten anubias from them awhile ago and they are doing great. I get my next plant delivery from them today. They do bundles and can be cheaper then big box stores for some plants and they have low light plants and a lot more.
It is. I have 4 tanks and all are plants. It's addicting and relaxing. Cheap on amazon or ebay, sometimes you can find decently priced light strips that'll grow low to medium light plants.
