Any questions, feel free to ask me.
My plants are growing in azoo plant grower bed, red sea florabase, ada aquasoil and soon the new Fluval stratum stuff :^)

I'm interested! I'm not exactly sure which plants I want, though. Haha. Maybe you could help me here?

I'm familiar with crypts and swords to some degree - I have some of the big box stores variety growing well. Recently however, they died when our tank started leaking and we had to scramble to save the fish... and the plants just didn't have a chance, we were so busy with the fish.

We have a super low-tech tank - no CO2, and a 36W light over a 46 gallon bowfront, with eco-complete and root tabs. We have managed some "medium" light level plants such as an aponogeton ulvaceus and some sword plants that were labelled as medium, though.
We're looking for plants that will grow without much fuss (asides from root tabs), will be fairly hardy, and will be either mid to large in our tank. If it gets too large, it can go into our 125 gallon tank, so being too large isn't a problem. So basically, a low-light and NOT small plant is what we're looking for. I'm thinking 2-3 sword plants, maybe a crypt? We also would want some guppy grass, haha.

36 watts over a 46 gallon tank is low light. Crypts and swords should be fine. I'd question the amount of light the crypts would get at the bottom of your tank though, still if plants survived in your tank previously you should be fine now. Hopefully you were able to seal your old tank.

The only experience I have is growing with 1+ watts per gallon, with maximum depths of 12 inches. I have 10/20/33 gallon tanks.
I don't use any co2 in my tanks. The plants I have are small now. Crypts will get bigger/taller.
My hybrid swords should max out around 18+ inches.

Swords are the best pick in all reality considering their size fully grown.
Guppy grass, no problemo.

Feel free to drop me a private message,
-Gordon

Hm, that's intriguing, I never thought about the lighting differences between plants that have leaves higher and lower in the water column. That is super intriguing, because we always have tons of success with our bigger plants... and an incredibly bad track record with the shorter ones. Oops.
Perhaps this is a better question then - which of the sword plants right now are the tallest? I can always grow some sword plants up for a while in another tank, but that's kinda a pain, haha.
