Does anyone know which plants will do well as a filter for a 500 gallon pond. I am trying to go with no mechanical filter. I understand water hyacinth is great but it is illegal. I found water lettuce here in SW Florida and put 5-6 floating in my pond. Is there anythiing better?

You may want to try posting this in the pond section of even the plants section. Might get a better response. 
water cress. have your water feature fall into a bowl or some kind of container and plant the watercress in the bowl. it likes a bit of current and the roots act as a great natural filter. just make sure you keep it away from the fish, because they LOVE to eat it. you can also harvest it and add it to salads or sandwiches.
