Please Help! (And Be Kind)

I'm sorry to say it was an LFS. They seemed so good and helpful though, but this guy I think was a bit of a loose cannon. He was really off-target with how many fish we should buy too...which we havent....but we said we wanted to get a couple of angels, four keyholes and four blue rams, and he turned round to us and said that would be stupidly understocked! He recommended many many more fish...I mean, it's only a 240L! So we'll keep clear of him in future I think.
At the end of the day I blame myself though, I should have stuck to my guns. When you're new, you just trust these people, you know. I hate living in the knowledge I could have potentially killed these fish. The poor things.
I'll keep on doing my best to keep the nitrite and ammonia down, and see how it goes. I think bactinettes and bio-spira is the same sort of thing. Should I get another pot of it and see if that might help the tank sort itself out?

You are here and that's what counts! You ARE doing more than most "newbies" and glad you care enough to do the research.
Keep up with the water changes and you should start to see some nitrates showing up. Do NOT add any more fish until the cycle is complete. When you add more fish in the cycling phase, the bacteria has to catch up with the extra bioload in the tank which will stress your fish even more and may lead to an extended cycling process.

Good luck!
