please help think I am going to cry Now I have ick :o(

Definately read the article that Spartan linked, (thanks for linking that one BTW) Also I have used the salt and heat treatment with MTS's and with pond snails, I saw no side efeects at all. Most shrimp will tolerate salt quite well, many are brackish water species that will live in freshwater anyhow. Don't cry, this hobby has frustratiing days, but you can win most battles, and the ones you lose will teach you something even if losing does Suck! ICH is IMO one of the easier battles there is, fin rot should not be difficult, but I have not treated it myself. I would do some very serious checking with other tank paramiters, ICH doesn't typically just break out for no reason, and most of the time fin rot is a secondary sign of other stresses or damage (could be ich that caused it though)

thanks guys I am going out tonight to get the q tank just to be sure and I have already raised the temp 2 degrees no salt yet till tonight. I can use table salt right? And also from what I gather I turn the temp up to 86, about 110 teaspoons of salt for the 55g at at rate of 2 teaspoons diluted every 2 hours? Do I do water changes as well and do I do this process for 2 or 3 weeks? Thanks alot all.

table salt is fine, your plan sounds good, 2 weeks is really more than enough. I would keep up with maintenance throughout the treatment period what ever water changes you normally do just keep doing at that rate. add 2 tsp per gallon of salt to your change water before it goes in and it should match you tank. after the treatment period just quit adding salt and the changes will bting the level back to nothing aver time.

Try get the salt in as quick as possible.

Regular table salt is fine, just make sure there are no additives.

If your tank is 55g then add 13ish teaspoons every couple hours (2-3hours) until you hit 110 teaspoons total. Just stick with your regular water change schedule. And remember, keep treating your tank for at least a week after the last signs of ick have disappeared.

Ah, Dave beat me to it. :)

Thank you !!!Thank you!!for the super quick response I will let you know how it goes after the 2 weeks, waiting to get a ride to get this tank for tonight is killing me!!! I will start the treatment asap. Thanks again your are all the best!! :o

update

so far I have gotten a 10g as a q tank and set it all up now the shrimp and snails are safe in there I hope. Anyway I raised the temp to 86ish and so far have 60 teaspoons of table salt in there. Looks abit cloudy(not that I care right now) I guess I will add the rest of the salt tomorrow 50 tsp more It seems alot to me. But I trust all your opinions and advice. I am just so worried about all my fishes and I want them to get better. The salt really doesn't hurt them  Thanks again.

Yep, I added 200 tsp in a 48 hour period, it scared the devil out of me, but I used my pictus as a judge and he never showed any signs of stress beyond what he was showing while covered with ich. furthermore, 3 days later when the spots were gone he went back to being a normal pictus despite the elevated temp and the salt for the 2 weeks following the ich spots. If it really makes you too nervous, remember the reccomended dosage is 1-3 tsp per gallon, so you can bring it up to 2 like I did, or just live with it at 1+. Also remember that we are talking measure gallon of water in the tank, not rated tank volume. I would estimate a decorated 55 at around 46 gallons give or take 5 gallons.

thanks dave, I observed them first thing this morning at 75 tsp and they seem better than yesterday with no salt. I was worried about the cory's but I set the splash high on the bio wheel. I am going to add the rest of the salt today and I am sure that everything will be fine. Thanks for the reassurance thou it made me feel better. :o Thanks again.

The thing to remember is this, once eradicated, there is no chance of ICH coming back unless you introduce it yourself so it's a one time battle that will benifit your fish for the rest of their lives. I love looking at my big tank and Knowing that I will never agian see ICH in there. It is one of many reassurances that I have from the knowledge I've gained from this and other websites.
