pleco food

What kind of pleco?

I feed a mix of foods. Algae pellets, prepared meaty foods live blood worms, fresh chopped earthworms and fresh veggies. Very few bottom feeders will get by on a diet of nothing but algae.

Yep, and it's needed. Common plecos consume algae as juveniles, but want meatier foods as they age. Without supplemental feedings, they can become aggressive and start going after fish.

The zucchini sinks after freezing, or after soaking for a while. I've tried weighting it down with a rock with poor results. You can purchase veggie clips--a plastic clip on a suction cup, or weighted so it sinks. Some people will use a tank-safe fork, also.

With veggies, I think people give up to quick. Most fish take a few tries before accepting something as food, so be patient. Don't let it rot, but leave the veggies in there for 2-3 days the first few times.

For other food items, if you have problems getting them to the bottom of the tank throug the top and mid-water feeders, use a riser tube. Cheap, and you can pour the food directly to a specific location. This worked great for feeding a peacock eel I had--he learned what the tube meant, and would swim up it in search of food.

ok well i i tied some lettuce to a rock and made it sink but my pleco hasnt even touched it he isnt very active and whenever i put pellets in some one else will try to eat it and he wont even look at it. i tried giving him some algea wafers at night but i dont if hes eating them cause he still seems to be very skinny.
ill try some spinach right now and see what he does. the pleco is about 6" but is that still a juvinile?? or will he eat normal food?

The common pleco will appreciate meatier foods at 6 inches. Veggies are eaten, but they really do need to be in the tank for more than 24 hours. I'd recommend some of the frozen prepared foods, ideally one that has a mix of vegetables and meats.
