one of my friends was at petco and took a pic of this pleco. its labeled as a common pleco, but doesn't look like it to me

any idea what it is?

Marble Sailfin?? Just a guess but it looks like it would have a big dorsal fin if it was spread out which is why I thought maybe it was a sailfin of some kind.

the spots on a sailfin are closertogether and much larger

To identify it down to genus, we'd need to see how many fin rays are in the dorsal fin- if it's more than 10 it's some kind of sailfin (genus Pterygoplichthys).

appears to be common to me (thus narrowing it down to >dozen species)
