i am interested in a plecostumas . i have read during research that they can get to 12 inchs or more in more rare cases. they also stated they wont need a very large tank because they arent very active. i am wondering how large a tank ide need to house a pleco 12 inchs long?

Well......my neighbor has a 25 gallon tank with a very old pleco, the thing is at least 12" and just lays in the middle of the tank with its head under an ornament. I swear it is so crammed in the tank it can't move around much at all.....but they just drop food in front of it and it sucks it up. They are very hardy fish and can take a lot of punishment, but they do get large and don't "grow to the size of the tank".

I really should make a serious offer to them one day and see if they will let me move him to my 110 gallon tank, but the few times I've hinted at it she starts talking about how much they like it...
