Can I add one pleco (Hypancistrus zebra) to a Discus tank with cardinal tetras? Please tell me if this would be okay or if you have any other suggestions.

The tank is empty right now. I would want to add the tetras first, the pleco second, and then the discus after a couple of months or so. Is this acceptable?

Thanks.

as far as interaction, it would be fine. as far as water quality - i don't know. zebra plecos are omnivores, and all plecs are pretty messy eaters/big poopers. water changes and testing would have to be twice as intensive to keep the water clean enough for the discus.

personally i wouldn't get a zebra pleco unless i were going to start a breeding program. there are so few of them available that until they becomes more common i wouldn't want to take a healthy individual out of the gene pool. of course that's just a personal preference.
