I've seen these plecos at my LFS that are black with lots of yellow spots. Does anybody know what type of pleco this might be, or are they possibly dyed?

There are a few it could be...

The first one that comes to mind is the Golden Nugget Pleco..

They do not get as large as commons. L-18 grows between 6- 8 inches, approx anyway. They are sensitive fish. Must have clean water at all times. They can be very shy also, it's often hard to get them too feed. Avoid them if they have sunken bellies. I had mine for several months, he was beautiful I kept the water clean but I never saw him eat 8( They are truly beautiful fish! They run about $25 -40 here but are often very hard to find. Let us know if you decide to get him! 8) Michelle

I agree Redscare, not good for algae clean up, way too shy!

L18 can get up to 14", L81 are more in the range of 6-8" - Theres also a L177 comes in at around 8" as well. ... they can be pretty difficult to tell apart so who knows which one you get until it grows to a foot long LOL!
