Please suggest some cichlids for a 300gal community tank.

I currently have plecos, catfish (synodontis robbianus), parrot fish, and 3 clown loaches in 29 gal tank that will be added to the 300 gal tank. Looking for brightly colored cichlids.

Thank you, Patrick

Wow, that's what I call a TANK. And I don't think I'm the only one.
I guess you could go with almost anything you like.
Don't you have any preferences like; Africans from Lake Malawi or Tanganyika, or cichlids from South or Central America? That will narrow it down a bit. Perhaps you could tell us your water parameters like pH and GH that will make it easier to decide from witch continent you should choose your cichlids from. To give you an idea;
Tab water with high pH like 7.7 / 8.4 would be suitable for Cichlids from Lake Malawi.
Tab water with pH 8.4 / 9.2 would be perfect for Cichlids from Lake Tanganyika.
Tab water with pH 7.7 and lower like 7 would be right for S/C American Cichlids.

Parrot fish? Parrot fish as in Blood Parrot?

What ph are you in?

There are many cichlids that are colorful. African cichlids are colorful. However, CA and SA can get just as colorful. Have you tried to look into pictures first...what area you prefer (African/CA/SA)? You can try www.cichlidae.com

well there are hundreds of diffrent cichlids to choose from. so we need to work out what you really want.

would you rather have few very large fish

or more medium fish.

or as many as possible small fish.

do you want something that is going to have a personality and being really personable.

or do you want the living tapestry type tank.

do you have any preference between africa and America?

does it have to be a cichlid? (cough arrowana cough)

if we can narrow down what you really want a bit we can help you more.

I had Red Tiger Oscars in the past, and what personalities they had! You could see them watching people.... An interesting, and smart fish.

Then again, Discus have been said to be "Kings of the Aquarium".. :D
