i have been on the internet lookin up dwarf puffers and i noticed none of the pictures actually show the puffer "puffed up". do these fish "puff up"
:read:
:sim:

Yes, they do, but they only do it as a defense mechanism or if they're stressed.

Yes, all puffers puff up. If they did not then they would not be puffers. If you take good care of your puffer, odds are that you will never see him puff up.

The puffing is a defense mechanism to make them to large to eat when they feel threatened. It is stressful to the fish.

A happy puffer is an unpuffed puffer.

I noticed that too. But I hear that puffing is somewhat dangerous for the fish. Which is a shame because I'm sure it's rather cool.

I saw mine puff a total of ONE time, haha. It was when the female was bullying the male, before I divided the tank. (I was new... it was too small, but, then I read that they needed a larger tank, which i could not supply. I just did a lot more maintnance, eg water changes... the like)

...i am really starting to want a DP 10 gallon set up, i am thinking a 10 may be to small for a pair or trio of dwarf puffers???

Makes me want one
