alrite i have A very small tank 2.5g that i want to use as a show in my kitchen. i no htat it is small and for that reason i want a colorful fish that is small. i am tryin to decide between a small school of cardinal or neon tetras. wat do you think i should adde, othr suggestions are apprecuated.

ps. the plantage(word i made up) in this tank is going to be micro swords, so keep that in mind during suggestions
 
A 2.5 is too small for a tetra school. One guppy would do alright with a small filter and regular water changes. A small heater wouldn't hurt either if the room temp fluctuates much. We have 2 in my girlfriend's 2.5 (my gf got another without telling me). I am giving her one of my spare ten gallon tanks for them.

That would be my vote. I have one in my community tank and he has more personality than all the rest put together.
 
Yep, Betta! Mine was in a 1g fishbowl until I broke it (no harm to the fish though) and now is in a 2.5g with, believe it or not, two dwarf spotted cories. They get along well and the cories do a great job eating the food that drops.

My betta is a red w/a hint of turquiose, male. He is beautiful and very happy in his home!
 
I too agree with the betta!!! I have a 35g and a 60g, but I wanted something in my kitchen to watch while I cook, so I got a 2.5 gallon with a very pretty betta! The only thing I don't like about the small tank is you really need to watch your nitrites! Mine can get really high, so I change the water once or twice a week to keep up!! Also I have found that the light keeps a pretty consistent temperature!
The other suggestion might be 2-3 male guppies, they come in pretty colors! I had 2 in the 2.5g tank for a while, but moved them to the bigger tank so that I could get the betta

I don't know where people think it's ok to house bettas in small tanks like that. Minimum 10 gallons for a betta, anything under 5 gallons is just too small to house anything healthy. A bioload in a small tank like that wouldn't even be able to handle a betta long term. Bettas are housed in small containers in shipping and at the store because they normally produce little waste (still too much for under 10 gallons). They're not fed before shipping and not fed while at most stores either. Even 10 gallons is not very much water, it's alot less than most people realize.
