I have one of those 3 ft deep 12 ft round inflatable pools. The kids haven't used it much and I've been battling green water this year. It doesn't stay real cold around here even in winter so I think I've talked my wife into letting me pull the old water out rinse it well and refill it.
I was at the LFS a few weeks ago and he gave me like 6 water lettuce to give to my friend and father in law for their ponds. They still haven't hooked up with me and the water lettuce has had babies since just sitting in a rubbermaid. Today I noticed some small fish that must have had eggs in the WL roots. This thing isn't even filtered, its pretty much stagnant water.
I'm thinking of seeing what plants will grow in the pool, its in full sunlight most of the day, and want to see what will make it during the winter, figure water probably get down to near 40.
Can killies or white clouds handle that temp? Do you think any plants will do okay? I figure they live through the winter in our ponds and lakes they should in the pool too.
If everything works out I might just start rasing some trops in the summer to sell off and some cold water fish in the winter. Plus some plants.
The filter itself I can DYI to use media but its going to be low flow for the gallonage. I think its only powerful enough to move 700 gph so its only going to filter the pool water once every 2.5 hours or so.
Any ideas?
