Pool sand vrs play sand?

Pool filter sand is whiter and cleaner. I put directly into my tanks, but does cause some cloudiness, but the filter clears it in a day or so.
I should say whiter at first. It doesn't stay that way over the long term. It picks up color from plants...fish poo..etc.
And I mix mine with fluorite anyway.
Since I never really compared it to play sand, I don't kniow if the grains are bigger or not.

My experience contradicts the first two. I had play sand from Home Depot in my betta tank for about a month. It was very fine, very white, and very, very dirty. I had to wash it a LOT to even get it to begin to clear up. Excuse the ugly fake log.

In my 90, I changed my crushed coral substrate to pool filter sand. I washed one bag and then poured the second bag in without washing at all. In 24 hours it is almost perfectly clear. It's a light tan color which looks more natural than the stark white color of the play sand.
