pool to pond

I have a pool, about 6' deep, and drainage stopped working for years.
the pumping/fitering both went bad. converting it into a pond is an alternative, Is there a way to maintain the pond without filtering/replacing the water, say after adding some dirt into it and raise some plants there ?

Check out the thread called "interesting read. pool to pond" in the pond section. It has a link to an article where a fella did exactly that. Pretty cool stuff. Sorry, I still have not figured how to make a link. I think the thread is back a page or two...

You'll need surface movements though to keep the gas exchange going around.
