Hi all. I am wondering everyones thoughts.
There is a possibility that my family and I will be relocating for NY to SC.
My question is, should I even attempt to take my 20 Africans with my 90? or should I just sell them and if I decide to, start fresh once we are settled in?
I am leaning towards not trying to take them. It just seems like it is going to be way to much stress on us and the fish too.

I would sell them and start over unless you some really unusual ones.

Keep them. Take the tank down last and put it up first. The fish will be ok bagged, it's not that far so the trip can be made in one day:)

I agree. Buy some big fish bags and bag them up with plenty of room. Pick up one of those cheap styrofoam coolers and some heatpacks if needed. The fish will be fine, a lot of breeders ship their fish priority mail 2-3 days. You can ship the fish or bring them with you if you're driving.

I'm sure you already have one, but if you don't this will make the whole process a breeze you can just sit down and wait for the tank to drain then fill: http://www.dtpetsupplies.com/catalog/product_info.php?language=en&currency=USD&products_id=3796
Much easier then the old bucket method.

Bottom line, if you want the fish to come with you, you can find a way to make it happen. It will only be as stressful as you make it. Just take your time and the whole move shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

It would depend on how attached you are to these particular fish. I'm sure you could find a way to make it work but it is a lot of stress moving fish around, especialy that many. I would pick a few that are maybe unusual or that you specifically like and go with those. Just my thoughts...

Battery operated air pumps and clear plastic tubs that hold about 30gals of water is a movers dream come true..

First go to wal-mart and buy one of those clear tubs rated at 30gal drill holes in the lid, order off line or thru pet shop a battery powered air pump duct tape the air pump out side the container push air line tubing thru one of the holes in the lid then attach a difusser to keep the air line from feeding out of the lid, secure tub in vehicle by stuffing towels around the container walla your very own transport..

Also while at wal-mart buy about 5 cheap 1gal destilled or plain old drinking water for water changes about every 2 hrs..

This will also act as a holding tank til your setup is up and running at your new location.. dont forget the water changes and keep in a warm area..

Also depending on your fish size you may be able to skimp to a smaller size container for handling purposes.. 30gal container with water equals 240LBS of water weight so it may be a 2 man job..
