Where is the best direction to have the outlet from the power filter pointing?
At the moment it is pointing towards the center of the tank but I have been told to direct it upwards !as this would stop the fish gasping for air!
I have sand on the floor of the tank but that isn't being disturbed by the jet.
Also while I'm here we are getting a small amount of green algy showing under the sand(against the glass) is this normal? if not what would be the best method of removal
see pic (note extreme close up lol)

Each tank is a bit different. Most folks will attembt to get more surface agitation for effective gas exchange to the air. This allows O2 to be absorbed in to the water more. You want to have good circulation in the tank with few dead flow spots.

That algae is normal.

Is it ok to leave the algae then or does it need cleaning up if so whats the best way?

No problem wih the algae..if it bothers you, stick your finger in there and wipe it off...

sorry but going back to the direction of the filter outlet again I have a 12 inch airstone/curtain which creates alot of survace agitation does the jet need to be pointed towards the surface to help with the o2 or towards the center of the tank to create circulation ? by the way its a 240 lt tank with about 30 inches of fish the tank dimensions are 15 inchs by 20 inches by 48 inches

If the suction is at one end of the tank, I would aim the discharge acroos the surface to the opposite end. I would try to get it to at least help ripple the surface.

The oxygen in the tank should be fine. Your bubble curtain and power filter will cause enough surface agitation. Place your power filter somewhere to best eliminate dead spots.

All that info is correct unless you have a planted tank with CO2.

Thank you for all your help jet now pointing towards the surface (well along the surface).
