I have a 29 gal tank and a marineland 330 powerfilter. I am wondering if it is ok to have it way over to one side or if the center is the only way to go. Also the 330 has two baskets for extra filtering media, any idea on what to put in there. I don't think that I will need any extra biological since the filter already has two biowheels. maybe I will just leave them empty. The tank will have a betta and some tetras. I am not sure what else will go in there. I am waiting for it to cycle right now and I figure that I have some time to figure it out.

Thanks

Hi, don't know much about filters and such  but I do know that my new betta is beautiful and loves his only 2 gallon tank. Yours, I bet, will be thrilled in the bigger tank. I just love neon tetras and wish my set up was big enough to have them all. :D

Also please keep reading these posts here and keep asking questions! Everyone here is so helpful and there is always someone to answer your questions.

There is so much great advise about tank cycling (check out to cycling sticky), water changes, toxins levels, etc and everything you need to know! :idea2:

I don't know how new you are to all of this, but I was and what a difference this forum has made. :bowing: Read everything you can, I know I have and I am a lot more patience and relaxed about the whole thing!!

Like they say at the begining of the newbie forum, something like, the only dumb questions are the ones not asked.

Your filter should be more than enough, I wouldnt worry about the extra baskets. I am not familiar with your particular filter but I personally always put my filters of to one side of the tank.

As for the Betta and Tetras. They will be lots of fun, What type of Tetras are you thinking of? Just curious. I have recently developed a fondness for Emperor Tetras, but they are quite hard to find in my area.

I'd throw some floss or sponges in the extra baskets - it can't hurt, and you'd be surprised how much debris will get filtered out. Mechanical media before your biological media also helps to keep the biological media from becoming dirty - this is great, because the last thing you want to do is clean it and wash away the nitrifying bacteria.

Thanks for the help!

I am pretty new I have had my five gallon tank for about six months. However, I hear that there is a lot of difference between a five and a twenty-nine gallon tank.

I have already learned a lot from this forum. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks. I had to wait like 4 or 5 days for the link to activate my account to be emailed to me.

That filter is on the large side for that aquarium. It moves 330 GPH which is 11 times the volume of the tank an hour. I think that just some floos would be a good idea. The filter cartridges already have some carbon in them.

As for the fish I I think that I will stick to neons. However, I have to find a way to get the dh of the water down. I am sure that there is something I can do.

Again thanks for the help everyone.
