I am about to get a couple of Hydor Koralia power heads. How much gph per power head should I get for a 30 gal reef? Also, any suggestions on HOB filters? Marineland for 50 gals was what I was thinking.

Try to get a total of at least 300gph (about 10X per gal). In a SW the LR is your filter (but nice to have a mech filter also).
I have not used a filter on my reefs before, but I did have a refugy. The skimmer is the only "real" filter I use.

IIRC you plan to keep SPS eventually so you'll want a high turnover rate, like 2 600gph's or better.
Filters I like Aquaclears, 70 or 110 gives enough space for your sponge, bag of GFO or other media of your choice and still have room to throw some chaeto in it.
