A storm has knocked out power in my area. With any luck it won’t last long, but the damage is widespread and substantial. In short, I don’t know how soon it will be back. I know I can do water changes to help my fish survive while the filters aren’t running, but generally speaking how often do I need to do them - once a day, or more than that? I have a 125, two 55s and a 29. I keep cichlids in each.

keep the filter media wet

watch the parameters on all of your tanks.

as long as the power outsage does not last very long (a couple of hours), the fish should be fine. it will help to stir up the water every so often to make sure gas exchange still takes place.

i was just about to ask thay ricky maybe its a super computer that dosent need power it runs on soul power lol but then again he could be using his phone to access the internet

I was on my computer at work where the power never seems to go out. Fortunately, the power at home was back on when I stopped by at noon. It was only out for about five hours. They're saying it could be up to three days for some people. I'll try to keep the tips in mind for the future.

Water changes will work - I would say do not feed, test parameters morning and night, water change as necessary if you see a spike in parameters.

My power was out for a couple days plus last year - unknown to me. When I came back and got everything on I had no spike in parameters and none subsequently. It was in Dublin in December/Jan mind, and I believe the cold water caused the relevant activity to just stop...warmer climes might have higher chance of difficulties with ammonia/nitrite.

edit : Prime or similar could be your saviour here if you are under pressure with that amount of tanks - and more importantly good luck !
