Power Outage

Hey, I'm stuck at work, and was just informed that we have a power outage at home. I have a 55 gallon with 2 blue gouramis, an angelfish and 3 bottom dwellers.

How long can they go with no filtration? I'm going to be at work for another 3 hours.

TIA...I appreciate any help.

Well, the filtratration isn't as big as the aeration... they'll eventually run out of oxygen as the water becomes more and more stagnant.

If it were me, I'd change some of the water out in a few hours. I'm not 100% convinced this will help, haven't been in that situation yet. Just imagine getting new water in there would have a higher oxygen content.

Luckily you're not overstocked, so you may have bought some time there...

Be sure to add slightly warm water in there to counter the cooling that could occur as the tank sits for a while without heat.

Mine went without any power: filters, heaters, aeration, etc.. for nine hours and were perfectly fine in the end.

NYC pet stores

I read an article on some NYC pet store that was hurt in the great power loss recenlty. They opened the tanks and dragged nets in the water to break the surface tension and add O2.
