Anyone know of a good powerhead for a 20 long gallon? It's going to go in my hillstream loach tank. I'm looking online at some powerheads and so far the Koralia seems to be good. Not sure on the GPH too. I'm also planning on checking out my LFS and Petco to see what they have in stock when I have time off. I would prefer one that is not loud, also.

Plus, anyone know if those AC powerhead that you attach to filters is any good?

I don't have any stock yet. I have the tank set up so far and letting it cycle with a filter. I'm not buying the loaches until November or December and nothing will be living in the tank til then.

I'll PM you if I don't find one.
I'm use to filters and don't know much about powerheads:)

So I've been researching and an article I read said get a powerhead 10 or 15 times the gallons of the tank. So maybe around 200 or 300 GPH (sounds high though...)?
Anyways, so far it's either a Hydor Koralia or Aquatop. Also looking online for deals on it too:). I'll see what my LFS has next week. I might even get a lower GPH powerhead since I will also have the filter and don't want the stock to be swimming in a whirlpool.

Any info/experience on powerheads is appreciated!

*Chris, I may have to pass on your powerhead. 800 is too strong for the 20 gallon. Thanks for offering it though.

I have a half-dozen or more extra aquaclear powerheads of various sizes. I wouldn't put anything larger than a 50 (270 gph) in a 20 gallon tank, a single 70 (400 gph) is a bit much for a 40 breeder, even with the flow rate at minimum. If you prefer 2 smaller powerheads I have several 20's (127 gph) as well. The 30 pumps 175 gph. I use the quickfilter housings with penguin sponges inside for prefilters, also great for bio, and easy to rinse out w/weekly partials.
Now that I have a 220 gallon tank I may actually be able to use the aquaclear 110 powerhead I picked up last year. It pumps 900+ gph, was actually too much for the 125 whan I set it up.

Thank you for all the info.
I'm very interested in the powerheads but let me go check out my LFS to see what they have then I'll PM you.

I was thinking I'll just switch out the AC 30 filter and add a AC 50 or 70 filter to the tank by itself since the 30 doesn't have enough water movement...

An AC 70 hob is too much flow (300 gph) for a 20 gallon tank IMO, though I do run 2 on my 55. I also have 2 of those sitting idle since I've upgraded tank sizes, they won't fit over the rim of a 75 gallon or larger tank. Will have 2 more after I take down the 55 to put up the 220.
The koralia powerheads are fine for circulating water, but personally I like the AC powerheads w/quickfilters because they also pick up debris rather than just blowing it around the tank.

So the powerhead I have is quite annoying so I need a new powerhead. My aquaclear is blah too as I can hear the propeller. Looking at the koralia, it seems to be quiet enough for me but don't really have a clue. Anyone have experience with the koralias and if they are quiet as they look and sound in videos? I don't want to get it and find that it's annoying too. Or am I just being picky?
