is it a bad idea to add a powerhead / wave maker to my 55g freshwater tank?

I have a school of 15 tiger barbs in it with a school of 7 yoyo loaches.. along with 5 black skirt tetras.

Im just trying to make a natural environment instead of just having the water stand still (with exception of the movement made by the filters). Im basically going for more water movement.

What do you guys think?

There's nothing wrong with that as long as it's not causing the fish any problems swimming.

Adding surface movement is actually a good thing, especially in warm weather (helps with gas exchange).

I suggest a small cheap powerhead filter, like the ones designed for a 10g tank. It should get the job done.

Try this: http://www.petsr4u.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CIF4

It's surprisingly powerful for a such a small thing.
