i am looking for a powerhead for a 55 gallon. the biggest one i could find was for a 50 gallon. would i need to get 2? :o....also i dont know if all powerheads are like this, but what is this air line tube that is coming out of the top of the powerhead?
-thanks so much

Most people use the Maxijet line of powerheads in SW, usually two at the back corners pointed to the front-middle.

You can actually modify Maxijets for enormous flow, but that's for later . . .

There's also Seios which are more powerful, but bigger and more expensive.

On the high end are Tunze Streams which move massive amounts of water on very little electricity. They're going to be coming out with the NanoStream line soon for smaller tanks (like yours). Many SW people have eagerly been awaiting these.

What is the GPH rating on the powerheads? In total, you want a GPH of atleast 10x the volume of your tank (produced by one or more powerheads), more is highly recomended.

The air line ube coming out of the top of the powerhead is the powerheads venturi feature - it blows air into the water. I suggest you don't use that feature, as it reduces the water flow.
