Hey kids... so I need to get one for my fluval 204. I can't seem to find one online, or at least one that will definitely work/fit on my fluval... what is everyone out there using!?

Looking forward to the responses.

No worries, so back to my original question... can anyone recommend a pre-filter sponge that I could attach to the intake of my fluval 204?

Thanks again,

I suggest Nylon.

Prefilter foam would inhibit the designed 'flow' the filter needs.. JMO ..

just go get a sponge for any of the aquaclear powerfilter sponges and stick that onto the intake

Joe - FYI, the FilterMaIII has lower resistance to flow than does the standard Eheim strainer. And yes, I checked it myself before I started using them.

Without good upkeep, it can clog of course, but so can a strainer.

cds - www.thatfishplace.com has Tetra Brilliant and Super Brilliant prefilter sponges. Both work great, but I'd recommend the Super Brilliant if it's in stock as it seems to be finer in density.

As far as putting it on the intake of your fluval, I've found it easiest to trim a slightly larger circle in the center with sharp scissors, perhaps 3/4" down into the top, it makes it much easier to install and remove it during cleanings as you won't have to stretch it over the intake strainer. That way you will only need to slide it over the grey piece with the ball in it, you'll want to leave that attatched as the ball is what makes the priming mechanism work properly on your Fluval.

If you find that they don't have this sponge in inventory, please let me know and I will send you one from my fishroom stock. There are also the FilterMax series which appear to do a good job in my friend's tank, but they are a bit obtrusive looking IMHO, they do come with an interesting adapter, however I don't know if it fits the Fluvals.

Sincerely,
Raithan O. Ellis
