I have 2 pregnant guppies and was wondering what i can put then in so the fry survive?

The only fish store in my town doesn't have a breeder box.

So, i took a large soda bottle and drilled about 50 tiny holes in it and cut the top off. I hung it inside my tank and put a guppy in it. The thing is that the guppy didn't look very happy so i took her out. Is it acceptable to put her in a soda bottle. I have no idea when they will have their babies, could be today, could be in 3 weeks. I have no idea. What should i do?

They fry are so small they will probably be able swim right of those holes you made, unless you made the pin size holes, in which case, you would need a LOT of them to allow for enough water to flow in and out. I would try to get a breeder trap, or breeder net and just wait until you get one. Guppy's have fry like crazy.

the holes are 1/16 inch. seems too small for a fish to swim through. Is a large soda bottle too small to keep a single guppy in until it has this fry?

why not just get some breeder grass or cover for the fry?

When I raised guppies..I had a pad of thei grass..the fry would hide in it till they got big enough they didn't get eaten.

because i have a little bit of everything in my tank. 2 -6 inch plecos, 1 cat fish, 2 6 inch gold fish and about 10 fish under 2 inches. The large fish will probably eat the guppy fry

How big is your tank?

I think you're much better off providing cover for the fry, than to keep fish in a soda bottle, or even a breeder net.

The goldfish would likely eat the fry (if there isn't enough cover to hide in,) but they shouldn't be sharing a tank with tropical fish anyway.

To elaborate, goldfish are coldwater fish. If the plecos are the common varriety they will outgrow the tank. I have to assume the 10 fish under 2 inches will get bigger than 2 inches, and could you tell me what kind of catfish? I know this doesnt relate to your origional question, but I see a problem and would like to help before it becomes worse.
