Pregnant guppy so fat her scales popped out?

One of my female blue moscow guppies is so fat her scales popped out all over her body yesterday. She was so puffed out she looked like a porcupine. :22_yikes: I had been watching her grow increasingly large, and was worried because she seemed extraordinarily huge, then that happened. I was afraid I'd find her dead this morning, but instead there are a few more fry in the tank, and her scales have returned to normal. She's still swimming in a corner, but not as enormous as before, so hopefully she'll finish having her fry and return to good health. Has anyone ever had this happen before? I've had guppies for a long time, but this is a first for me. This is not her first batch of fry, either. I have other blue moscow guppies, but they haven't done this before. Then again, I think I've only had them around 4 months, so maybe it's a blue moscow thing? They are big guppies.

But her scales are back to normal today, and she's having her fry. Does dropsy come and go?

Just an update, she is still looking normal and had all her fry. I checked the water params and it's fine. Hopefully it wasn't dropsy, I researched it, and it does sound nasty.

That sounds very strange. both for being so prego her scales pop out and its not dropsy or for it to be dropsy and have it go away just like that.

either way, i would keep an eye on her.

she is not pregnant she is sick i forget the name of the illness but there is no cure for it so all you can really do is wait and see how it goes

Not likely. Her scales probably were protruding due to being heavily pregnant. I do not think this fish has/had Dropsy at all.

i dont think it is dropsy either, especially if she is having the fry and her scales are back to normal. i would keep watch on her to make sure everything is ok, but other than that, it just sounds like she had an abnormally large batch of fry.
