You're right on. The black spot is called the "gravid patch". Note that she may dump babies before I finish typing this, or she may go on another week or so getting fatter and fatter.
Note that guppies will eat their babies, as will anything else in the tank. Many folks wind up just letting the little ones "tough it out" and see what survives (you might be suprized). If you want to spare them, invest in a *good quality* breeder trap (not the $6 cheapo ones, in my opinion). Or you could put her in a 2&1/2 or 5 gallon aquarium stuffed with some sort of weedy plastic plant. The babies will hide from her sufficiently as they don't usually seek the babies out like homing missiles. They just suck them down if they happen to swim by.
Feed them finely crushed fish food. Beware not to overfeed and keep water nice and clean (daily 50% changes with water from the main tank should do if your main tank has great water quality).
