i have 4 pristella (golden pristella) tetras. one of them now has a large reddish patch/ bulge and he/ she has gotten pale and hangs out at the surface. pregnant or sick? i have no idea. i just noticed this tonight? if preg. any help would be grateful as i can find absolutely no info on breeding them.

Usually tetras in breeding condition exhibit good color and are very active.
I have seen several tetra species spawn in my tanks over the years, and I was never really able to tell the females were ready to release eggs by any tell-tale bulging.
Pregnancy is a misnomer with tetras; guppies, platies, mollies (all livebearers), are better described by that term.

i see. well thank you for the response. the way he/ she is swimming near the surface made me think she was weak and sick. i'll do what i can.
