i saw my honey gourami(sp?) both male and female hug and form a yin and yang type of shape, then i saw dozens of eggs come out (not sure how, i'm assuming female) then i saw the male swim fast and collect them all in his mouth, then put them all together in a bubbls nest he had made. this happend 3 times (for what i saw, i might be more)

anyway, i'm do for a w/c for my rams, now I don't want to disturb the bubble nest.

how long before (if any) they become free swimmers?

i don't want to risk my rams, but then again i don't want to risk my honies :)

Could another tank inhabitant have come along and destroyed it? Some fish are fine and get along great with everyone else until spawning time comes. Or could the other fish in your tank have spooked the honies to the point where they ate the eggs? Maybe if you want to keep the babies you should try putting the parents alone in their own tank to spawn...

You could have a fry tank ready for the next time they do that......when they are finished laying the eggs....scoop them out, bubble nest and all...with a bowl and place them in the fry tank with dad....if they are anything like bettas, the dad keeps the eggs in the bubblenest and when they hatch, he keeps the wrigglers in as well. Until they are freeswimming...then he eats them...lol.

Or...just "dish" the bubble nest with the eggs. I did this once with one of my betta. After he was set with the nest and eggs I just snuck a clear plastec walmart betta bowl under him and the nest and just let them float in the tank like that. I changed the water in the bowl every day by using an airline tube to syphon out enough water, but not all of it..and refilled with heated conditioned water. To make sure the water was the same temp, I had a bowl of fresh clean floating in the same tank and used that for the change water. Why would I do such a thing?....lol....it was a deep tank and I didn't want dad tiring himself out swimming back and forth to collect eggs and fry. It worked great while dad was taking care of them! When they became wrigglers I moved them to another fry tank and put dad back in his own.

pretty awsome!

thanks again.

Female Gouramis will eat the eggs after they lay them. The male will just keep the eggs together but not protect them.

You need a breeding tank and just like it was said, put the male and the eggs in the tank. When they hatch, remove the male cause he will eat them.
