I just went out and picked up a Prizm skimmer today. I have it all hooked up and running, but have a question for anyone, especially anyone who has used this skimmer before. Is it normal for the collection cup to have water in it after you start the skimmer? It isn't skim...it is water...filled all the way to the top. The manual doesn't say anything about this, and I followed the instructions to the letter. It says to allow 2 days for a break in period but nothing about it putting water in the collection cup. Any help would be appreciated.

you need to slow down the flow rate (adjust knob) I also had trouble with micro bubbles and my Prizm but these settled down after 1/2 days.
 
I have slowed the water rate down, but there is still all that water in the collection cup. Is that normal?
 
No there should be little/no water in there, I think it must of got in there before you slowed the flow rate down I would just empty it.
 
Ok. Thanks. I went ahead and emptied the collection cup and made sure that the water flow was turned down to just under the O ring headed to the collector cup. Thanks for all your help.

filled collection cup

I too have the same problem. I have had my skimmer in use for a day now and I have to keep adjusting the flow rate to a minimum so that the collection cup does not fill with water. I cannot see the O ring to to my set up. I would like to know what to look for with the foam to make sure all is skimming properly :help:
 
What I have seen with my prizm is that dark green water gets in my collection cup but the neck of the prizm has some pretty nasty thick dark brown gunk on it. I clean it out a couple of times a week. My bioload is quite small for a 75 with my largest fish being a coral beauty at maybe 4 in.
 
Well, I got rid of the Prizm...I found them to be a piece of crap. I went out and bought a Coralife Super Skimmer and couldn't be happier. These skimmers work great and don't cost anymore than what the Prizm did.

I too own a Prizm skimmer which I have used for 1 yr and I am totally fed up with. I have spent alot time trying to make this system work for me and have never been able to produce anything but tainted water. I have a small bioload and thought that it may be the reason the skimmer is not producing much sludge but now I have a nitrate spike and the nutrients that should be removed by the skimmer, are not. My research has led me to believe that the Coralife Super Skimmer is the way to go, as I have read impressive reviews. I'm changing and hopefully can prevent you from wasting your time.
