Hello all,

Anyone have any idea where I might find Profile Aquatic Plant Soil in the Toronto area (Ontario, Canada)?

I checked Humber Nurseries, and the local Home Depot, but no luck. Not exactly the time of year for this sort of thing up here.

I need a (cheap, if possible) substrate for our new 90 gallon planted tank, and this sounded perfect.

Look for Schultz's Aquatic soil (in home supply stores) or Turface(found in some farm supply places) which are virtually replicas of Profile. All of them come from the same manufacturer and are very similar and just as effective as Flourite, IME.
I like the Turface because it can be purchased in a finer consistency if desired.

Thanks,

I was able to pick up Turface MVP from a place in Brampton - $14 for a 50lb bag!!

Seems this stuff needs to be rinsed a _lot_...

Rinse it as much as possible to remove the dust and then put it into the aquarium and put a saucer or a shallow bowl on the substrate and fill the tank by filling the bowl and letting the water over flow onto the substrate very slowly.
This will create very little disturbance and also very little clouding of the water.
Then crank up the filter and you should be good to go in a few hours.
Don't forget the cycle the tank before adding a lot of fish.
If you haven't already put the Turface into the tank, here's a tip that will help you cycle the tank more quickly. If you have access to some peat moss (plain peat....no additives) and some mulm(the gunk that collects in filters that need to be cleaned), sprinkle just a handful of peat moss on the bottom of the tank, then pure some mulm taken from a healthy filter, over the peat. Then put in your Turface over that and you will have a tank that is two weeks ahead of schedule, from a cycling perspective.

Glad you were able to find the Turface.
