Hi, I'm new here, but not new to the hobby (but I'm far from an expert). I have a 25 gallon tank with 3 cories, 3 black neons, 2 glo-lites, 2 black skirt tetras, 4 male guppies, 1 catfish (agh I forget what he's called) and 1 baby molly.
The molly came from my 13 year old cousin, whose own molly unexpectedly had babies, and there were only two (whether she only had two, or some didn't make it, I'm not sure) and I took them home with me because I have more experience than he does and I really wanted the little girls to make it. They lived in a 1 gallon bowl for a few weeks until I felt they were big enough to go into my main tank. Unfortunately one disappeared, but the other has been living very happily for another several weeks now.
But yesterday, I noticed she was huge and when I fed them I saw the raised scales. I then proceeded to thoroughly freak out, knowing that at this point it was surely fatal.
Then I calmed down and put her back in the 1 gallon bowl with some epsom salts.
Today, she is still very lively and active, and I could swear she is at least 5% less swollen. This to me tells me she has a chance, or am I wrong? I put in some PimaFix today as I forgot to last night (what with all the panicking). She's eating and pooping and swimming fine and nothing seems wrong aside from the raised scales..
I'm truly trying not to be optomistic here but it seems to me that she may make it.. Every previous time I lost a fish to dropsy they dropped like a rock not long after the scales became raised.
It's amazing how you can become so attached to a fish smaller than your pinky finger nail.
I'm just wondering what everyone with dropsy experience thinks, and if her seemingly good health is a good sign, or if it's irrelevant.. I could just wait and see what happens but I'm rather restless with worry so..
Thanks in advance
