I hated my Prizm when I used it on my 30g, and bought a Remora. When I set up my 65g, we didn't want to get a new skimmer right away so I decided to throw the Prizm on the tank. It's much less accessible than it was on the other tank, which has turned out to be a good thing - constantly messing around with it seems to have been what made it work so badly on the 30g. While it's never going to be a great skimmer, it's now working well and I get some pretty nasty skimmate.
I completely agree with Triggerman - IMO slow and steady adjustments, with maybe 24h in between, are the best way to go.
Give the skimmer some time to 'break in', it should be fine. Also ensure that you're not introducing anything into the water that's causing it to overactivate - water conditioners with 'slime coat' additives and aloe, oils (on your hands, or new pieces of equipment), etc. and even some foods can do this. Prime and Amquel are two conditioners that won't overactivate your skimmer, many others will cause it to pull water like crazy for a day or two.
I personally empty my skimmer cups every day or two. Skimmate buildup in the neck can slow down the foam, and it only takes about 60 seconds to rinse the cup out. Skimmate stinks, and I don't like to leave it sitting around in my living room or bedroom!
