hey everyone. Ive just recieved a SUPER 1002 VORTEX PROTEIN SKIMMER which im going to use on my 37 gallon reef tank im in the process of setting up. I need some help on figuring it out, and how to work it. Plus in the online pictures it shows a black looking piece at the end of the intake tube....and mine just have that! Is that a big deal? Next im having trouble on figuring out where you want the water level to be inside the skimmer. Do you want it to flow just below the collection cup? up to the top of the collection cup so it spills over everynow and then? or wat? i cant figure out what level of flow you want to adjust it to. Anyways someone please help thanks!

Don't know the specifics of your brand, but it looks something like one of my skimmers.

When you first set it up, you will probably want to have the water level pretty low, because it will foam a lot until it breaks in.

After a day or two, adjust the level to just at the base of the collection cup. That should give you decent, thick skimmate. You may need to move the level up or down to get the skimmate the consistency you want. Be patient, it will take a while to settle in, and the skimming will change when you put food or any additives in the tank. The strategy is to set it, watch it for a day or so, and adjust.

Because it looks a lot like a coralife super skimmer, you might have a look at the instructions for that: http://www.esuweb.com/productinstruct/pdf/096316330146.pdf
