Anyone use these in a fresh water tank? The description on them says for fresh and salt water. Just wondering what the advatages of haveing one on a freshwater tank are.
I honestly don't think there are any. I remember this being posted before and the answer always came up that they prove no benefit nor bad.... it's just not needed for a freshie tank....
the process by which skimmers work is called 'foam fractionation. the chemical nature of fresh water, unless VERY hard and HIGH TDS cannot develop significant 'foam' for fractionation to work.
Also, higher density in saltwater allows tha formation of smaller air bubbles, which will prove to have more "atraction power" towars proteic wastes than the bigger bubbles normally formed in FW .
