So, I'm wondering, for anyone with the Red Sea Berlin Classic skimmer - have you tried attaching any old air pump to the air inlet (like a Hagen Elite 800)? Wouldn't this serve essentially the same purpose as the air portion of the Turbo Upgrade kit? (I have a MagDrive 7 in the sump driving it.)
This skimmer was NOT my first choice; it came with the marine package I got through Tenecor. I'm making do for now, but if I can soup it up a bit using an air pump I already have...
When I'm ready to throw down $300, I'm thinking about the AquaC EV-120. Anyone have comments on/experience with the AquaC EV?
I'm concerned about it because I seem to have a nutrient export problem. I have tons of what I've since discovered are syconoid sponges all over the inside of the sump, in the prefilter and behind the powerheads. I realize a few means my water quality is good, but that a huge number means that either the skimmer isn't working properly or I'm over feeding. I'm not overfeeding - they get 2 small meals a day with a turkey baster. I did recently read though, that the juice in the frozen food should be drained before going into the tank (according to WetWebMedia) so I've started doing that.
Other than that (and zero ammonia and constant, slightly elevated nitrites
which are driving me crazy), my water quality is perfect
and everyone seems to be happy.
Sorry to be so long-winded.
Debbie
