are protien skimmers needed on brackish water tanks? I thought they were only helpfull with saltwater.

I have heard of folks using them on BW too, but it's not really necessary, unless you have an extra one laying around.
One of the members of the vancouver fish club told me that if the specific gravity is over 1.010 it is nescesary for puffers and anything that's sensitive to any overabundance of nutrients.
