Who else gets annoyied at a goldfish in a bowl image?.
Latest annoyance, "American Dad" has a goldfish in a bowl. His name is Claus and he's a person stuck in a goldfish body ...or something like that?..
So he's a talking intelligent goldfish and he can't say that he's sufficating to death and suffering in an improper setup?. Or maybe he's just so intelligent that he can give himself the frequent water changes he needs to survive. It does seem he climbs out of his bowl from time to time on the show.

Yes I know these are just cartoons, it's a just a cartoon fish, not a real one suffering.
In this case not even a very good cartoon....BUT I hate to think that cartoons like this keeps it going for the general public that it's OK to keep a goldfish in a bowl.

I was also bothered by Pinnochio and his goldfish in a bowl, but at least that movie was made a long time ago and has the excuse of the internet and fish keeping knowledge not being as widely spread.

Right now, there's no excuse for any show to portray a goldfish in a bowl and spread that ignorance and cruelty anymore. I'm sure there are other examples of goldfish in bowls on sitcoms and whatever that I don't watch.

Doesn't bother me at all. I won't keep real fish in those conditions though.

Klaus at least gets ick one time! Proof that he is a real fish kinda... I see the show, but I would never keep goldies in a bowl.. Bowls are only for temp 1-2 day max holding in dire situations.

Meh, if any kid uses cartoons as an example of why goldfish can be kept in bowls you can point out the whole surviving ten-story falls off rooftops and getting flattened into pancakes by cars thing.

What really bugged me was the episode of Monk that had a fantail goldfish playing the role of a "Crimson Marble Fish" with a 1 year lifespan. Seriously, I think everyone on the planet with a tv knows a goldfish when they see one. lol

Interesting thread. I've noticed that I'm now much more aware of fish tank images now that I keep some:

The Simpsons -- forget which episode, but there's one where the "B" story is Homer raising a lobster, so he brings it home and dumps it in his aquarium, which actually looked pretty respectable -- plants and filter. It's FW though, so he has to add enough salt to make it half-way SW.

Yeah... they never do partial water changes or gravel vacs during cartoons either... nor do they explain the nitrogen cycle or the importance of balanced nutrition, or mention the specific gravity of the fish tanks...

... what's up with that?

huh? are we talking about cartoons..like when the coyote falls of the cliff and all you see is Poof and dust and the coyote walks away?

LOL

Yeah... I'm still annoyed about that... they should put warnings on cartoons "don't try this at home"... alas poor fido.
