Could a porcupine puffer fish and a ______ grouper stay in a tank together? The tank is a 110 btw. Also please suggest a grouper type. Beginner grouper please. :)

I have no idea what grouper could possibly be small enough to be ok in a 110... the smallest groupers I see at Liveaquaria require a 180G minimum. Nevermind, found some on another site that may work. The only puffers I know of that are ok in a 110G are either Toby puffers or a spiny box puffer, all others seem to require 180G and larger. Porcupine I think may do ok though, even if it is a little small for it. Definitely stay away from others like dogface, stars and stripes, mappa, etc.. those guys are huge.

Edit: Unfortunately, I know nothing about groupers, so I can't begin to give a recommendation on which one is the best option.

Genus Liopropoma such as L. swalesi (Swale's Basslet),L.rubre (Swissguard Basslet) and L. carnabi (Candy Basslet) are true Groupers small enough for a 110. However not for beginners and certainly not for the price-concious shopper!

If you like a Tobacco then look at a Chalk Bass. They're very Grouper-like but not really Groupers but Basses. They'd be great for your tank.

For 110 G with Por Puff, Look into Cephalopholis urodeta/C. leoparda/C. formosa/Epinephelus ongus, etc, etc. (most hide a lot though when given such surroundings except for split seconds to snatch foods)

Even Soapfish (out more in the open) such as Grammistes sexllineatus/Pogonopperca punctuata (aka clown grouper) may catch your eyes. Understand why they are called Soapfish but never had issues with appropriate tankmates/system.

All mentined above are very easy to keep and make sure to prevent carpet diving!

Hope you find what youre looking for!

Vtail (red flag) grouper would work only gets to be 11". Tobacco bass are mean. We got one in full size at work and he was so mean to everyone else in the tank. Chalk bass are nice but stay small.

Hahaha groupers get like 2 and a half feet big. (at least the ones i've read about) They are beautiful though
